When we reach out, when we care, when we work for the good of others, when we live as Jesus challenges us to live, we are in mission. Wesley UMC has had an active Outreach & Missions effort for many years.

Wesley Wagons Team
The Wesley Wagons ministry team oversees our three Conestoga Huts, which provide a temporary home for men transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing. We collaborate with St. Vincent de Paul and HUD-VASH (Veteran’s Housing). We provide oversight to this program and a supportive, warm welcome to our guests. Sign-up to attend our regular meetings. We will provide orientation to this program and welcome your participation! We are currently searching for a new team leader.
The Interfaith Night Shelter is a consortium of over 30 faith communities offering shelter, food, recreational activities, and comfort to as many as 10 families per night. Wesley hosts this shelter for one week each year in late September. This large team provides breakfast and dinner, meal cleanup, overnight hosting, setup and take-down. The team is looking for a new lead coordinator who can provide oversight and organization. This ministry is brimming with opportunities to serve, and to imagine ways of making an even greater impact. Sign up today! Contact our current team leader with questions. [Team Leader = Betty Olguin]
WAVE partners with HUD-VASH to assist them in providing support to homeless veterans in the Eugene/Springfield area. We provide move-in baskets with essential home items, as well as respond to specific requests for support for large and small necessities. Team members help inventory donation items, assemble move-in baskets, and respond with short-notice to veteran’s needs. You can be involved by donated needed items, or by signing up for the team! Training is simple and many volunteers work together to make this ministry team run smoothly. [Team Leader = Ron Cole]
White Bird Collection Team
We collect socks and sample-sized toiletries for people served by the White Bird Clinic. Socks are the most requested item by homeless people. Toiletries from hotel visits or samples from the dentist’s office are the perfect size. When we have collected enough items for a donation, we deliver them to the White Bird Clinic. You can be involved by donating needed items or signing up to help with delivery. [Team Leader = Richard Anderson]
The FFLC Dining Room Team
Our team is responsible for food preparation on the third Thursday of every month at the Food For Lane County Dining Room. The preparation includes wrapping silver ware, chopping vegetables, etc. in preparation for a large meal served to Dining Room patrons. Jobs can involve standing or sitting. Sign up to help out! A team of at least 5 are needed each month.[Team Leader = Colleen Foley]
Backpacks of Blessing Team
Our team provides food over the weekend for kids attending Willagillespie Elementary who are at risk of going without food on days when there is no school. We currently provide bags of food for 43 kids every Friday. We provide extra food over longer school vacations, and the number of children receiving bags varies with need. Team members help with fundraising, donations, and compiling and delivering the bags to the school each Friday. Additional team members who can serve as backup or in a rotation will bolster our core group of volunteers. [Team Leader = Cindy Smigley]
Poppen Community Garden Team
Our team is currently overseeing the startup and installation of the community garden. When complete, this beautiful space will feature 66 raised garden beds and a walking labyrinth. We are partnering with Boy Scout Troop 100, HUD-VASH, the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation program, and Huerto de la Familia to make this garden a place for growing so much more than food! Team members are needed to help with the installation, and then the ongoing management of the garden and its collaborations with the community. No actual gardening experience required! Just a desire to love and serve our neighbors through this ministry. [Team Leaders = Karlene Clark & Ron Cole]
Clothing Closet Ministry Team
Our team provides clothes/shoes/coats to school children and their families, ages 0 – adult. New/used clothes are collected throughout the spring and summer with the open give away in the first part of September. We try to help families in need dress their kids for school, and relieve the financial pressure back-to-school can bring. We are focused on school children kindergarten through high school, but we will give clothes to anyone in the family.Team members are needed to collect clothing for donation. When the event nears, we organize, sort, mend, setup, and clean up, as well as provide hospitality to families at the event. [Team Leader = Juliana Clevenger]
